Friday of the Month, an event organized by students from the Postgraduate Program in Social Anthropology at USP, invites everyone to the August themed table!

Theme: “Unified Black Movement: protest, popular struggle and anti-racist education”

The proposal of Friday of the Month in August is to discuss the relationships between political mobilization, knowledge production and institutionalization of agendas of the black social movement in Brazil, based on the trajectory of the Unified Black Movement (MNU). The panel starts with the following question: how does black protest in the streets unfold into political and institutional formulations in the field of education?

In this sense, it is proposed to articulate historical, ethnographic and political dimensions of the MNU's actions, taking as central the experiences, narratives and reflections of its members. The aim is to understand how the militant production of the black movement contributed to the consolidation of milestones such as Law 10,639/2003 - 11,645/2008 and to the structuring of public education policy for ethnic-racial relations. Furthermore, the proposal intends to explore the tensions and continuities between collective action, intellectual production and public management, highlighting the processes through which demands historically constructed within the scope of social struggle become part of the State's institutional agenda with regard to reparations and affirmative actions.
