Part of the collection of the Laboratory of Image and Sound in Anthropology (LISA) at the University of São Paulo is now available on a digital platform designed to democratize access to audiovisual productions about the Amazon region.
LISA’s audiovisual productions, the result of decades of field research in the Amazon region, now have a new channel dedicated to promoting and disseminating the region’s knowledge and cultural products. The partnership between the Laboratory and the streaming platform SOMMOS AMAZÔNIA, formalized in December 2025 and announced in May 2026, strengthens the dissemination of scientific knowledge accumulated at the public university.
Affiliated with the Department of Anthropology at USP’s School of Philosophy, Languages, and Literature, and the Humanities (FFLCH), LISA has been an international leader in productions related to the field of Expressive Forms and Knowledge Regimes—encompassing media such as photography, film, theater, and music—while also valuing, embracing, and fostering the production of knowledge on cross-cutting themes in anthropology since 1991. The Laboratory houses a vast collection of photographs, audio recordings, and documentary films, serving as a fundamental center for research and training for students in various areas of anthropology.
This collaboration with the platform expands the reach of a collection of works focused on Amazonian themes in their broadest sense, ranging from indigenous peoples and traditional communities to studies on local knowledge and urban and rural cultural expressions in the region.
SOMMOS AMAZÔNIA, in turn, is the first global platform dedicated to the digital distribution of cultural products from the Amazon and the dissemination of information and knowledge about the region. It brings together content from the fields of audiovisual media, music, literature, visual arts, food, and news, offering a cross-cutting, multimedia browsing experience.
The availability of these productions on a publicly accessible platform reinforces USP’s mission in the areas of outreach and the social impact of academic research. The initiative allows materials of high anthropological value to reach beyond the university’s walls, fostering dialogue with society and the communities studied.
