• Afrosampas - Teaser - NTSC, color, 43 minutos, LISA, 2020. Direction, cameras and research: Jasper Chalcraft and Rose Satiko Gitirana Hikiji. Synopsis: The African presence in Brazilian music manifests itself in different ways. If in 1966, Baden Powell “Rio-fied” candomblé with the Afro-sambas he composed with Vinícius de Moraes, half a century later we experienced an unprecedented moment with the arrival of musicians from different African countries in the metropolis of São Paulo. In the film Afro-Sampas we see what can happen when musicians from both sides of the Atlantic are brought into contact in the city where they live. Yannick Delass (Democratic Republic of Congo), Edoh Fiho (Togo), Lenna Bahule (Mozambique), and the Brazilians Ari Colares, Chico Saraiva and Meno del Picchia accept our invitation to a first meeting in which they share sounds, memories and creativity.
• Woya Hayi Mawe - where are you going to? - Teaser - NTSC, color, 46 minutos, LISA, 2018. Direction, photography and research: Jasper Chalcraft e Rose Satiko Hikiji. Synopsis: Woya hayi mawe: where are you going to? These lyrics echo Mozambican musician Lenna Bahule’s explorations both in her birthplace - Maputo - and in her adopted home of São Paulo. From the stage to the urban outskirts, we see how Lenna deals with the difficulties of being a black female musician in both Brazil and Mozambique. The artistic world of São Paulo demands her Africanity, her African references, her roots. Yet in Mozambique Lenna is now known for her success in Brazil: she brings some of Brazil’s cultural power to the stage in Maputo. Returning to Mozambique, she rediscovers her home country with new eyes. Lenna meets and works with an inspirational new generation of Maputo-based musicians, who she involves in the production of a show in Maputo’s Centro Cultural Franco-Moçambicano. From this major cultural institution, to her grandmother’s farm and a social project in Maputo’s outskirts, we see Lenna and the Maputo artivists investigating Mozambique’s traditional and popular musics and discovering new musical and activist routes. Navigating between activism and the stage, between an imagined ‘Africa’ that Brazil demands of her, and a Brazilian cosmopolitanism São Paulo has given her, Lenna discovers - in a traditional Chopi song that travels - that her musical roots were even more powerful than she imagined.
• Tabuluja. NTSC, color, 11 minutes, LISA, 2017. Direction: Shambuyi Wetu, Rose Satiko Hikiji, Jasper Chalcraft. Synopsis: Shambuyi Wetu, an artist from the Democratic Republic of Congo refugee in São Paulo, builds with his narrative performances about the experience of the diaspora and the situation of homme noir in the world. The film Tabuluja is a collaborative creation by the artist with anthropologists Rose Satiko Hikiji and Jasper Chalcraft, and is part of the Afro-Sampas collection, a series of films about the experience of African musicians, dancers and artists residing in São Paulo, developed in the project "Ser / Becoming African in Brazil: Making music and African cultural heritage in São Paulo ".

• The eagle. NTSC, color, 17min., LISA, 2015. Direction: Alexandrine Boudreault-Fournier and Rose Satiko Gitirana Hikiji. Synopsis: Eagles are very peculiar animals of prey. They are always looking for new opportunities. It has sharp vision that allows them to identify a target while they are flying. The Eagle is Miguel Aguíla. The Eagle is an expatriate Cuban, an outcast, who currently lives in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. This short film is about Miguel's unbelievable life: the hijacking of a train in Cuba, the car traffic in the United States, his experience as a cruise liner, and his hard work in the oil industry in Canada. Above all, The Eagle is a funny and exciting piece of life for a Cuban who now faces the biggest challenge of his life: a fight against cancer.

Synopsis: On the path of his artistic practice Chico Saraiva meets the experience of 7 masters: João Bosco, Sérgio Assad, Paulo César Pinheiro, Paulo Bellinati, Marco Pereira, Luiz Tatit and Guinga. Talking, with guitars in hand, reveal multiple ways in which music can take place from the relationship - especially fertile in Brazil - between the solo guitar (in its bias more linked to the written tradition) and our popular song.
• Fabrik Funk. NTSC, color, 26min. LISA, 2015. Direction: Alexandrine Boudreault-Fournier, Rose Satiko Hikiji and Sylvia Caiuby Novaes. Synopsis: Karoline is a young woman who wants a more exciting life than her daily life in a telemarketing center. In the streets of Cidade Tiradentes, the largest popular housing complex in Latin America, Karoline runs after the dream of being an MC, in this place that is known as a Funk Factory. The film is an ethnofiction that addresses the universe of Funk, a practice that involves music, dance, technology, fashion, the market, and which has become one of the main cultural phenomena of youth in Brazil. Fabrik Funk is the result of a collaboration between anthropologists from the University of São Paulo and the University of Victoria with residents of Cidade Tiradentes, who work in different ways in the artistic scene of this district. Recorded in June and July 2014, in Cidade Tiradentes / SP, and edited between São Paulo / Brazil and Victoria / Canada, in 2014 and 2015, the film was supported by FAPESP and UVIC.

Synopsis: Cidade Tiradentes, district in the extreme east of São Paulo, where the city ends, in the words of Daniel Hylario, our narrator. Synopsis: Young people from the outskirts of São Paulo present cinema as a means of expression and reflection. In the Quebradas, they make and display videos, questioning the media representations of the periphery and building new images from their experiences.
• Catarina Alves Costa – NTSC Trajectories Series, color, 25 min, LISA / FAPESP, 2007.Direction, Screenplay, Research and Editing: Nadja Marin and Rose Satiko Hikiji. Synopsis: Portuguese anthropologist and filmmaker Catarina Alves Costa talks about her films and the possibilities and tensions of the relationship between anthropological practice and cinematographic making. Observation cinema, research and the construction of ethnographic film are some of the themes that Catarina discusses in an interview permeated by the images and sounds of her films. This video is part of the Trajetórias Series, a proposal by GRAVI - USP's Visual Anthropology Group to build a dialogue with social scientists and documentary filmmakers through audiovisual.

Result of the post-doctoral project financed by FAPESP. Synopsis: Experience of shared anthropology, this video results from the meeting of anthropologist Rose Satiko Hikiji with Alessandra Cristina Raimundo, a young violinist who was the spalla of the Mazzaropi pole orchestra of Projeto Guri for five years. The video presents Alessandra's relationship with music and her reflection on this relationship, woven into the process of discussion and audiovisual realization that resulted in the short film Virus da Música, directed by Alessandra.

Synopsis: video is part of the postdoctoral research that started in 2004. Directed by Alessandra Cristina Raimundo, interlocutor of research in the doctorate, from a video workshop coordinated by anthropologist Rose Satiko Hikiji. It shows a conductor, a clarinetist, a cellist and three brothers singing and violin students talking about the presence of music in their lives.
